Jen’s Review of Night Reigns

Night Reigns is the second book in the Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as book one. The story took a long time to get going. I couldn’t see where the story was headed, except for the potential romance. The problem of the vampire’s unusual behavior makes the characters wonder what’s going on, but no clear cut goal becomes apparent for the characters until much later in the story.

I also had a hard time understanding how a virgin could trust a man enough to have sex with him, yet not trust him enough to tell him she has abilities or what kind of creature she is. When she finally reveals her secret, I was very disappointed because I expected something totally different and it takes the story into a different genre entirely. I don’t want to give it away if you haven’t read it, so I won’t say anything more about her secret.

I did like Amy and Marcus’ characters. They were both strong, tough, and reliable. I liked that Marcus had a sensitive side. I also liked seeing Roland and Sarah again. Roland is so sweet with her!

The story doesn’t have any resolution to the non-romantic plot line. I will have to read the next one to see what will happen.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Night Reigns. It was good but not great. I will definitely continue this series because I like the concept of the Immortal Guardians and I like the characters.
