Reading Multiple Books at Once ~ Talkin’ ’bout Books Tuesday (Discussion #14)

Discussion #14 Question: Do you read multiple books at once?

My to-finish list keeps growing and growing because I read multiple books at once, then never finish all of them.

The fault does not lie with the quality of the books. It’s me. Unless I have the time to sit and read the book from start to finish, chances are I will pick something else up before coming back to that book. The other night I “sampled” about six or seven different books on my Kindle.

I’m pretty sure I have some degree of Attention Deficit Disorder. But, if I set my mind to getting a book done, I can sit for hours and read. I don’t really know what makes me want to jump from book to book. The good thing, at least, is that I don’t forget much about the books, even if it takes me a long time to get back to them. The main bad thing is that it takes me longer to get any one book finished, which makes it harder to post reviews regularly.

I’m I alone in this? Do you stick with one book until you are done, or do you read multiple books at a time? If you read multiple books, do you ever start some but not finish them?

Here’s a short list of some of the books I need to finish:

Pocket Full of Tinder by Jill Archer

Living Spectres by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

In Shining Armor by Elliott James

Dancing with Werewolves by Carole Nelson Douglas (re-read)

Burning Alive by Shannon K. Butcher (re-read)

About the meme…

Each Tuesday, we will post a discussion about a book-related topic. Sometimes, we will gear this toward writing books rather than reading them.

If you’re a blogger and you would like to join in on the fun, you don’t have to post about the same topic, but you are welcome to do so if you want. Just post a discussion and leave your link in the comments. If you’re not a blogger, that’s okay too. Just leave a comment with your answer to this week’s question.

  1. I tend to read multiple books too these days! It’s mostly due to practical reasons like I can’t carry a 800-page book in my bag so I pick up something more travel-sized, but sometimes I need a break from one book because it no longer suits my mood. I usually finish all of them though.

    1. That’s good! I’m trying to become more disciplined to get the ones done that I already started.

  2. I typically don’t do this anymore, but I used to! Now the only time I really have different books going at the same time is when they’re in different formats or I’m re-reading one. Example: I listen to a new book while I’m driving and read a new book for myself while I’m at home. But I also currently have a reread going that I’m reading very slowly (and sometimes even aloud to my daughter!)

    1. I’ve done that too. One ebook, one physical, and one audio… but like I said I’ve gotten kind of out of control with not finishing books. Thanks for stopping by!
