Books That Hook is getting a facelift! Changes in the works!

I’m excited about the changes coming to Books That Hook!

Books That Hook banner

Books That Hook is getting a facelift! This is our new banner, which I spent all night creating with Fresh Paint and Canva. The background is a watercolor painting I made on the computer. I wanted something brighter and less specific to one genre. After all my work, I hope people like it!

But that’s not the only change. As you can see, we have a new theme that allows us to showcase more of our posts on the homepage. It’s also more mobile-friendly than our old theme.

We also have new widgets, pages, and other features coming! I’ve added one widget already that shows our most recent reviews. I plan to add a few more for books we are reading and/or have received for review. I’m probably not going to put back all the Amazon and Google ads; at the most I will put one or two at the bottom.

There’s a book recommendations page being created. This will have a lot of our favorite authors, books, and series. To go along with that, I’m making an Amazon store that has pages for our favorite books, in case someone wants to see more and purchase any.

I’m also in the process of adding better site navigation by making landing pages for some of our main features. One other improvement I’m working on is reducing the amount of tags and categories, to make it easier to find what you are looking for on the blog.

I haven’t decided yet what I am going to do for authors. I’m thinking of a way I can showcase books written by particular authors. I don’t want to put it all on the recommendations page, because it will just get too big. I’m thinking about doing something like Night Owl Reviews has, where certain authors each have their own page.

This facelift was aggravating to Misty! She got upset with me for changing things again. I promised that this will be the last time I do it. What’s funny, though, is it’s me, not her, who has to do all the work 🙂 The hardest and most time-consuming part will be editing all of the old posts.

I Need Your Feedback

I’m deliberating which features and/or memes to bring back. If there are any in particular that you would like to see renewed (like the word of the day or the Sunday Post or any other we might have stopped doing), please leave a comment.

I’d also like to hear about other types of features you’d like to see more of on the blog. I can’t do much about giveaways, because those just become available whenever I can sign up for them, but I can add more things like interviews, guest posts, discussions, etc.

The watercolor is beautiful! I am digging this new design! Sometime change can be hard. I have updated my blog design a couple of times over the years, and I really should go back and reformat my posts to match what I do today, but I honestly can’t be bothered. I’ve also been wondering if I should delete those old posts that are just cover reveals and giveaway blitzes and things like that, or leave them alone.

FYI: The banner across the top is wider than the page. The last o and k are off the page and there is no side scroll bar. I’m sure it’s just a small tweak.

I really like the Sunday Post and Teaser Tuesday (even though I am hit or miss with that one).

Thank you for the feedback! I guess the page is not as responsive as the theme claims, lol, because it looks fine on my screen. It must depend on the size of your screen, which is obviously a problem. I will have to research how to fix it. Also, I’ll look into how to make the scroll bar show up. I’m so glad you told me about these things!

I’ve heard that updating old posts can help your SEO. I’m not sure if that’s true. I’m just OCD about things, and I’d like all my posts to be formatted the same way. I’m with you on not knowing what to do with the old cover reveals and giveaways. I just leave them alone because I don’t know whether to delete them.

Well, I found a theme I like better that seems to work much better with mobile devices and tablets. I’m in the processing of tweaking it 🙂
